Visions of a future community

Creating social sustainability within a neighbourhood can be a huge challenge. We set out to facilitate collaboration between a city, a global developer and a local NGO, with an ambitious goal. We wanted to create a model to bring the partners together to ideate, identify the needs of the community, and in the end tie it all back together to decide next steps.

Outline

Methodologies

  • Participatory Design

  • Public Interventions

  • Design Thinking

Impact

We designed a workbook which documented our efforts and enables people to repeat the exercises

Highlights of the process

Workshop facilitation

Through a series of workshops with participants of the different organizations, we improved the collaboration between them. We designed artefact specifically for these workshops to facilitate the collaboration between them.

Introducing the people of the community

Through public interventions on the streets of Västra Hamnen and workshops in community spaces, we learned about the needs of the people living in the area. We documented those findings and integrated them in the workshop series with the stakeholders by translating them into artefacts.

Read and repeat

Since we designed some very successful interventions and artefacts, we decided to document them in a workbook for our stakeholders to repeat and for other people to reuse.
